Change how your site looks

You can change the look and style of your site at any time.

Note: This section is for new Google Sites (at the bottom right, you'll see Create Create). Get help with classic Google Sites.

Choose a theme for your site

Use a pre-made theme

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the right, clickTheme.
  3. Under 'Created by Google', select a pre-made theme.

Create a custom theme

With custom themes, you can:

  • Create styles with different background and text colours and apply them to different parts of your site.
  • Set defaults for each text style.
  • Add brand images or favicons.
  • Change the colour of your menu text and background.
    • Tip: To move your menu to the top or the side, click SettingsSettings , then go to Navigation.
  • Customise other sites properties like buttons, dividers, links and image carousels.

Create a custom theme

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the right, clickTheme.
  3. Under 'Custom', select Create theme Plus.
  4. Enter a name for your theme and select Next.
    • You can also add a logo and banner image.
  5. Select a colour palette and select Next.
    • To choose specific colours for different parts of your site, select Customise colours.
  6. Choose your fonts and select Create theme.
  7. You can continue to make changes to your new custom theme in the panel on the right.

Make changes to a custom theme

  1. On the right, select the 'Themes' panel.
  2. Under 'Custom', find the custom theme you want to edit.
  3. In the upper right corner, select More Moreand thenEdit.

Tip: You must have more than one page to change the menu location.

Change the font

Change how a section looks

  1. Point to a section on the page. Then, at the left, click Background Color.
  2. Choose a style or add a photo.

Change the colour of the menu

If you're using a pre-made theme

  1. In the top right corner, click Settings Settings.
  2. In the 'Settings' window, go to Navigation and then Colour.
  3. Choose Transparent, White, or Black.
  4. At the top right, click Publish.

If you're using a custom theme

  1. On the right, select the 'Themes' panel.
  2. Under 'Custom', find the custom theme you want to edit.
  3. In the upper right corner, select More Moreand thenEdit.
  4. ClickNavigation.
  5. Under 'Background', change the colour of the menu, or select 'Transparent at top'.
  6. To publish your changes, at the top right, clickPublish.
